New rail line won’t flood

ASSURANCES have been given that the viability of the new Galway to Ennis section of the Western Rail Corridor will not be threatened by flooding.

Fears have been raised as part of the Ennis to Limerick section of track has been closed due to flooding. Now concern has been expressed that this could lead to a lack of dependability on the service between Galway and Limerick which will be open in April next year.

Work on the section between Ennis and Athenry is at an advanced stage and when this is completed, it will provide rail transport between the city and Limerick.

However, for the past week the section between Ennis and Limerick has remained closed due to flooding. Clare TD Pat Breen has been very vocal on this issue and said that commuters must be assured of a reliable service between Galway and Limerick.
