New Pope aims to spread Love with launch of EP
The understated yet sublime New Pope are launching their new EP this Friday in Róisín Dubh.
The EP is called Love and is the precursor to the album of the same name which is due out in October. This Friday’s launch will also be a fundraiser to get the album recorded and promoted.
The night will feature local songwriter Eoin Dolan, an acoustic set from indie-guitar band Field Trip and screenings of local music videos. Admission is only €5 or €10 for which people will get a gift-bag (including copy of Love EP, an A5 hand-printed poster and other items).
New Pope is a project headed up by David Boland, who co-founded Citóg, the weekly Wednesday night showcase in Róisín Dubh. Where is he planning to record the Love album?
“We are going to record it in my studio,” he says. “It’s not really a studio, more a big spare room without a bed that looks and feels real nice. We’ll figure out how to make the album sound good along the way.”
Some musicians find that recording is stressful, but David enjoys the process.
“I enjoy layering guitar and bass melodies and seeing a song develop and fill out. It is very satisfying,” he says.
New Pope are a vital part of the Galway music scene, and this is a project worth attending and supporting.
