Joe Geoghan... new exhibition.

The eyes of some of Ireland’s most celebrated poets – among them President Michael D Higgins, Gerald Dawe and Gabriel Rosenstock – captured through the lens of one of Galway’s best known photographers form the centerpiece of a new exhibition that opens in the city this week.

Eyes of the Beholder is part of Joe Geoghan’s photographic retrospective which launches this Thursday at the Art in Mind Gallery at 6pm – and runs to the end of the month.

The show which was previously on display at the 23rd Cúirt International Festival of Literature, involves 23 photographs of 23 poet’s eyes all underscored by a work written by the individual poet.

The poets include President Higgins, Gerald Dawe, Michael Gorman, Gerry Hanberry, Eva Bourke and Louis de Paor.

The exhibition will take a look at Joe’s career spanning almost five decades – with work in landscape, portraiture and more explorative forms from the city photographer.

It will also feature images from Joe’s photography books – including four pieces with proceeds being donated to the Rape Crisis Centre.

The exhibition runs until October 30 at the Art in Mind Gallery at Liosban Industrial Estate.
