New models from Peugeot sparks switch to electric
Peugeot has sparked off electrification in Ireland for 2020 with the launch of three new models: Peugeot e-208, 3008 HYBRID4 and 508 HYBRID.
The aim is to embrace customers who may want to show their greener side while complementing their existing petrol and diesel versions of their respective ranges for those that are not ready yet or, those who know that the internal combustion engines are more practical for them.
Their philosophy now is to offer customers the option to choose the model, then the powertrain without compromising on space, technology, looks or driving sensations. By 2023, 100% of the Peugeot passenger car and light commercial vehicles range will be electrified.
“Peugeot is rapidly embracing an electric future. It’s an exciting time as the brand works to ensure customers have the choice between conventional petrol, diesel, plug-in hybrid or all-electric variants,” said Colin Sheridan, Sales and Marketing Director at Gowan Distributors, Peugeot importers in Ireland.
“No two customers’ needs are the same and Peugeot aims to meet this very diverse customer requirement by offering a growing, wide range of powertrains. At the same time, our modular production platforms ensure whatever the customer’s choice of powertrain, the vehicle’s boot and cabin space is not affected and there’s absolutely no compromise on looks or driving sensation,” he said.
First up is the all-electric e-208, which retails from €27,334 after SEAI grant and VRT relief are taken into account. Fitted with a 100KW (136 bhp) electric unit with 50kWh battery, it develops 260 Nm of torque from 0 km/h, for instant response.
With three drive modes on offer (Eco, Normal and Sport), the e-208 delivers 0 to 100kmh in 8.1s in Sport Mode. A driving range from fully-charged is promised up to 340km. The battery is guaranteed for eight years or 160,000km, for up to 70% retention. It is available in Active, Allure, GT Line and the flagship GT trim.
