Galway Bay fm News has learnt this evening that University Hospital Galway is in the process of contacting patients over errors in laboratory tests done in 2004 for a variety of illnesses and diseases.

A new report has confirmed mistakes were made by a pathologist who worked briefly with the hospital between February and March 2004.

A second opinion was sought on his diagnoses after the British General Medical Council suspended his registration for 18 months last December.

UHG says a review of his diagnostic tests and reports received by them last week, reveals the pathologist DID make errors during his employment at the hospital.

The hospital refused to say how many patients are affected but did say they’ve been attempting to contact all patients concerned since last week.

Clinical Director of UHG Laboratory Services Professor Martin Cormican says they’ll be making public a report on these latest pathology errors .
