New Kia Ceed – three engines and four trim levels to be available

It is hard to believe that the new Kia Ceed is now in its third generation. Gone is the apostrophe from the name, which never served much of a purpose really, and into the car comes a host of new technology and driver assistance features.

At its launch in the Algarve this week, we were presented to another delightful, instantly recognisable design from the pencil of chief designer, Peter Shyerer, and the team at Kia’s European design centre in Frankfurt.

The importance of this point should not be lost with Irish buyers as the new car, like the others that went before, is set up specifically for Europe and for Ireland too.

A couple of weeks ago I reported on the Kia Stinger, their flashy sports model, and this new Ceed has some of the aspects first seen on the Stinger. It looks decidedly attractive, and while the changes to the exterior are not over the top, it is a fresh new look that will please potential purchasers.

Kia Ireland will land three engines and four trim levels on August 1 and there is considerable confidence that the new Ceed will be a success. Buyers can choose between a K2 and K3 with the current 1.0 TDGi or a new 1.6D. For K4 trim initially there will be just the 1.0 petrol while at the top of the range the K5 comes with a new 1.4 TDGi engine.

Prices start from €22,695 for the 1.0 K2 petrol and €24,995 for the diesel. K3 petrol is likely to be the best seller in Ireland and it has a price tag of  €24,295 while the top of the range 1.4 petrol model comes in at €28,595.

Looking at the features on the most popular K3 model you get 16” Alloys, LED lamps front and rear, wireless charger, electric parking brake, half-leather seats, a 7” display, Bluetooth with voice recognition, parking sensors and a reversing camera on top of the entry specification.
