Galway bay fm newsroom – The Chief Superintendent of the Galway Garda division says he’s ‘getting good vibes’ in relation to increasing the fleet and patrols in certain areas.

Tom Curley told this week’s meeting of the County joint policing committee that it’s an ongoing job to recruit and keep staff on in the force.

Tuam area Councillor Mary Hoade told the meeting that at a recent funeral she attended, four cars were broken into, and questioned the level of visible police patrols.

However, Councillor Jimmy McClearn pointed out there had been a 20 percent overall reduction in crime across the county despite the closure of rural stations.

Chief Superintendent Tom Curley told the meeting a Guard would be taking up permanent residence in Ballygar in the coming weeks.

Meanwhile Tom Curley says he will look into claims the South Connemara area is not being fully policed on Sundays.

Senator Trevor O’ Clochartaigh told the meeting about his concerns but the matter was neither confirmed or denied by Garda authorities.
