NEW GROUP TO DEAL WITH ILLEGAL DUMPING IN COUNTY

A new focus group has been created to deal with the ‘plague’ of illegal dumping in county areas.

Chairperson of the joint policing committee, Councillor Peter Roche, announced the initiative this week, stating illegal dumping is costing the Galway taxpayer thousands of euro.

The sub committee will consist of Gardaí, members of the public and local councillors who will meet on a regular basis.

They will discuss methods of tackling the problem and present their findings to the policing committee.

Two similar groups have also been created to deal with other issues affecting the county.

One will deal with vandalism in the county, while the other will deal with the area of closed circuit television or cctv schemes to offer further protection to communities.
