New Galway/Roscommon Education and Training Board to meet next month
Galway Bay fm newsroom – The first meeting of the Galway Roscommon education and training board will take place next month.
The new board will merge the existing Galway city, county and Roscommon VEC structure.
The formal closure of the County Galway VEC is taking place at Petersburg outdoor education centre in Clonbur this afternoon, where the turning of a sod on an extension at the facility also took place.
Chairperson and community representative of County Galway VEC Pat Gilmore told members ‘la spesialta seo’, and added while it was a day touched with sadness it was also one of great celebration.
Most of the 50 plus existing members of Galway city, county and Roscommon VECs will automatically transfer to the new ETB board, which will cater for around 20 schools.
The headquarters will be based in Athenry, and will also include a sub office in Roscommon.
Galway city native David Leahy will take up the post of CEO of the new ETB, moving from his post as head of North Tipperary VEC.
Outgoing County Galway CEO Joe McDonagh says he hopes the transition to the new boards will be seamless.
