NEW GALWAY HOSPITAL CHIEF FACING HUGE CHALLENGES

The new CEO of the Galway/Roscommon hospital group is facing huge challenges to bring Galway University Hospitals up to standard.

Bill Maher, who is currently acting chief of St Vincent’s hospital in Dublin, will take over as chief executive of this group from next month.

University Hospital Galway was recently labelled the worst performing hospital in the country in a report compiled by the HSE.

UHG and Merlin park are also running at least 12 million over budget, and nurses have been consistent in calling for support to deal with chronic overcrowding at the emergency department.
