New Euro candidate says Galway central to his campaign

A new candidate selected last evening to run in the European Election for the first time says Galway is a microcosm of the whole sprawling Midlands-North West constituency.
Senator Thomas Byrne was selected alongside veteran MEP Pat The Cope Gallagher to contest the forthcoming Euro election for Fianna Fail in this area.
He says that even though his native Meath is at the opposite end of the constitency to Galway the issues that are relevant to both counties are very similar and his links with Galway go back over the years.
Senator Byrne, a father of three from east Meath, represented Meath in Dáil Éireann between 2007 and 2011. He was elected to Seanad Éireann in 2011, where he currently holds the position of Fianna Fáil’s Spokesperson on Public Expenditure.
