Galway airport could be affected by proposed EU legislation which is seeking to end subsidies to Regional airports

The ammendment, which is currently before the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety Committee aims to reduce CO2 aviation emissions

However MEP Kathy Sinnott says the legislation does not take account of the fact that Ireland is an island and relies on air transport to connect it to the rest of Europe

She says local airports such as Galway, Cork, Kerry and Waterford play a vital role in the economies of areas outside major hubs, such as Dublin

Kathy Sinnott is urging her colleagues at the EU Parliament to reject the proposals to end subsidies to Regional airports.
