New Development Committees for City and County
Galway Bay Fm Newsroom
Mayor of Galway City Padraic Conneely and Councillor Donal Lyons will represent the City Council on the newly established Local Community Development Committee.
They were selected at a meeting of the city council this week (24/3), along with City Manager Brendan McGrath.
The new body was also given approval at this week’s meeting of Galway County Council.
The city Committee is made up of 15 members from the Council and community organisations and will be responsible for managing Local Community Development Programmes.
The committee itself will have a budget of about 700 thousand euro.
Councillor Colette Connolly told the meeting that it’s ‘a complete farce’ that councillors had to be selected for the committee before the local elections take place.
City Manager, Brendan McGrath said the membership would be reviewed after the local elections, if there are any changes.
