NEW DEFENCE SYSTEM LAUNCHED FOR FLOOD RISK AREAS OF GALWAY

A new system for battling floods – like those experienced in South and East Galway in November has been launched.

The "Big Bag System" is used as an alternative to the more convential use of sandbags to tackle rising water levels.

It can be stored in flood prone areas and can de deployed rapidly in times of flooding.

One four-and-a-half metre system is the equivalent of 670 sandbags
