Galway Bay fm newsroom – A new outpatient unit for children with cystic fibrosis is expected to open at University Hospital Galway by the end of July.
Work is well underway on the building in Newcastle which is part funded by the Cystic Fibrosis Association.
The new unit will include 4 examination rooms, a treatment room for procedures and a gym for assessment and physiotherapy.
Around 1 in 9 people in Ireland carry the CF gene compared to 1 in 25 in the U.K.
The unit at UHG will reduce the risk of infection to children with CF, allowing specialists to treat patients in an optimal physical environment.
It’s understood that the HSE is aiming to officially open the new building at the end of July.
