Carl Corcoran, formerly of Lyric FM, will launch Starlight Falling 1/ Coinnlíní Ceoil 1, the new CD from Galway singer Deirbhile Ní Bhrolcháin, this Friday night, December 8, in the City’s Crane Bar.

From a musical family, Deirbhile learned her first songs from her mother. While she’s best known as a traditional singer, her repertoire is a broad one.

Her debut album Smaointe was released more than 25 years ago on the Gael-Linn label and this is her first solo album since then. Deirbhile has featured on other recordings including Ceol Tigh Neachtain, also on the Gael-Linn label, and Charlie Lennon’s Island Wedding with the RTÉ label. Her voice will also be familiar to a generation of 30-somethings as she sang the theme song for the Irish-language cartoon Bouli.

She has also been a member of UCG choir, UCC choir, the Galway Baroque Singers, the Irish Youth Choir and Cois Cladaigh. Deirbhile studied Celtic Studies & has an MA in Old Irish from NUIG – something that’s helpful when she’s working on the lyrics of older songs – and she  has a B Mus from UCC.

In Starlight Falling 1/ Coinnlíní Ceoil 1, she presents some of her favourite songs in Irish and English. They are mainly traditional with some sean-nós and include Black is the Colour, Níl ’na Lá and Domhnall Óg.
