The number of new residential and commerical units built in Galway this year has dropped by a third.

Figures from GeoDirectory, a database set up by An Post and Ordnance Survey Ireland, show there were just over a thousand buildings constructed here in the first six months of this year.

That’s down 33 per cent on the same time last year.

The total number of buildings in Galway now stands at 107 thousand at the end of June.

Nationally the number of new buildings built so far this year almost halved.
