NDP spend €millions on Galway projects

THE quantity and diversity of social and economic projects supported by the National Development Plan across the county continued to expand last year despite the global financial crisis and the pressure on Ireland’s public finances.

Further investment was made in training and employment programmes, business supports, education, healthcare, social housing and the county’s physical infrastructure during 2008.

NDP investment in Co.Galway in the past year included: The Enterprise Boards support business and innovation in micro-enterprises at local level, through direct grant aid and indirect, non-financial support.

During 2008, the Galway County and City Enterprise Board was allocated €1million in funding. Companies supported Irish Vintage Scene in Oranmore and Electronic Media Solutions based in GMIT, winner of the County and City Enterprise Awards respectively.

Entreprise Ireland’s Community Enterprise Centre Scheme is a community led initiative which supports the establishment and expansion of micro enterprises in urban and rural locations and provides practical support in terms of space and facilities.

In Co. Galway in 2008, the Headford Development Association, SCCUL Enterprises Ltd., Mervue and the Drumshanbo Enterprise Centre Company Ltd received grants in excess of €1 million.

Enterprise Ireland provides both advice and financial assistance to High Potential Start- Up companies with a business plan underpinned by realistic projections of rapid growth in exports or sales.
