NBCRI to seek DNA samples at city trade show
Galway Bay fm newsroom – The National Breast Cancer Research Institute is looking for women to donate a sample of DNA to help in one of its research projects.
The Institute will gather cheek swabs at the Active Retirement Ireland Trade and Tourism show at the Radisson Hotel in the city next Tuesday. (8/4)
The study aims to examine if certain mutations in breast cancer patients might account for the unexplained risk behind its development.
The NBCRI needs DNA to compare between cancer patients and those with a very low cancer risk.
It’s looking for women over 60 years of age with no personal history of cancer and no first degree family members with breast cancer to participate.
Researcher with the NBCRI, Dr. Terri McVeigh explains how DNA is vital to breast cancer research in Galway:
And we’ll hear more about this research by the NBCRI on FYI Galway from 5.
