National funding for 9 Galway arts groups

Galway Bay fm newsroom – Over 25 thousand euro has been allocated to 9 Galway organisations under the Arts Council’s Festival and Events scheme for 2014.
The scheme is aimed at small, locally-based events that hacve requested funding of up to 40 thousand euro.
The largest allocation of 5,000 euro was awarded to Galway Theatre Festival.
Spirit of Voice has been allocated 4,500 euro, and Galway Jazz Festival will receive 4,000 euro.
The Westside Arts Festival, Portumna Arts Group, Connemara Environmental and Cultural Centre, Western Writers Centre, Inishbofin Set Dancing and Galway Cathedral Recitals will each receive funding of up to 3,000 euro.
The awards offered by the Arts Council may be used for one-off events or for a programme of festival activities.
A total of over 300 thousand euro was allocated to groups nationwide.
