CITY TRIBUNE
Musical treat for young and old
The second of Galway Music Residency’s Autumn series, 3 Saturdays: 3 Kinds of Music continues this Saturday at 11am.
This unique set of free concerts features the Galway ConTempo Quartet and some of Ireland’s best young musicians. This week’s guest is Neil Ó Loclainn’s contemporary trad ensemble Cuar. It features Neil on double bass and flute, Matthew Berrill on clarinet and Aoife Ní Bhriain on fiddle. These three young musicians – who are rooted in the Irish tradition – embrace everything from South Indian classical to minimalism to downtown jazz. Traditional Irish musician John Blake will also take part, focusing on the flute and whistle styles of Connacht, from the hills of Leitrim through Coleman Country in Sligo, down through the flowing styles of Roscommon and East Galway.
In addition to this, Galway ConTempo Quartet will continue their exploration of ‘Three Great Classical Masters’, performing Mozart’s The Hunt’ String Quartet. Saturday’s concert will take place in the Niland Gallery, Merchants Road. For further information, visit www.thegalwaymusicresidency.ie or call 091586706.
