Musical treat from magical trio

Three greats of Irish music, Zoë Conway, Dónal Lunny and Galway’s own Máirtín O’Connor, will be in concert at the City’s Town Hall Theatre this Saturday night, October 22, starting at 8pm.

Máirtín on accordion, Zoë on fiddle, and Dónal on guitar and bouzouki will be in Galway as part of a national tour.

The trio draw on an eclectic mix of old and new tunes and songs, including their own compositions for their lively shows.

Máirtín O’Connor, who was one of the driving forces behind Riverdance, has also performed with groups including De Danann, Midnight Well and Skylark, and has recorded with the likes of Elvis Costello, Mark Knopfler and Rod Stewart. His reputation as a composer and solo artist is second to none.   Zoë Conway’s career has included playing and singing Latin jazz with Rodrigo y Gabriella, being a guest soloist with the Irish Chamber Orchestra, performing with Lou Reed and Nick Cave, and touring with Riverdance. However, traditional Irish music remains to the fore in her life, as can be heard in her highly acclaimed solo albums.

Donal Lunny made his name as a member of the hugely influential groups Planxty, The Bothy Band, Altan and Moving Hearts.

A gifted composer, arranger and producer, he has worked with musicians such as Van Morrison, Rod Stewart, Elvis Costello and Kate Bush.

Individually, these three are all brilliant – together they should deliver a memorable evening.
