Musical celebration of Mark Logan raises funds for Jigsaw
Mad about Mark returns to the Róisín Dubh this Saturday, January 30. The event, now in its second year, celebrates the life of the late, and much-missed Mark Logan who died in March 2014.
Presented by Mark’s bandmates The Disconauts, the night includes some of Galway’s finest DJs and musicians. Acts will include the Disconauts (with a horn section, folks!), Billy Scurry, Get Down Edits, Dáithí (whose track Mary Keane’s Introduction is getting well-deserved exposure), John Conneely, Anthony Collins and the fantastic Shake DJs.
The Groove Tube interviewed The Disconauts back in 2009, when DJs Pádraic O’Connor and Keith O’Hanlon recalled how they met Mark Logan. Their memories have become especially poignant in light of his premature death.
“We were playing in the GPO and Mark had just moved to Galway and had come in to the club a couple of times,” Padraic recalled. “We started talking about music and we had the same tastes. . . soul, rare groove and we were into funk and disco. We asked him to come in one night and play some percussion . . . It felt right playing with him from the very first night, even though he didn’t know the music.”
Mad About Mark will be raising funds for Jigsaw Galway, which is a free, non-judgmental and confidential support service for young people (15-25) living in Galway city and county.
All the musicians and DJs are playing for free, so every euro raised is going to this invaluable service. Doors 8pm admission €10.
