Music for Galway celebrates the cello with superb programme
Music for Galway may not have the biggest marketing budget in the world but the the organisation’s effervescent Artistic Director, pianist Finghin Collins compensates for that.
Finghin dedicates his time and talent to visiting companies like Hewlett Packard, performing for its workers and increasing awareness Music for Galway’s great work in promoting classical music.
Finghin, who took up his role last year, works alongside the organisation’s Executive Officer, Anna Lardi Fogarty and the result is a dynamic partnership that is raising Music for Galway’s profile, both among audiences and the business community. Audiences for last season’s concert series were up and the group hopes to continue that trend in 2014-15. Its new programme was launched this week, in an event at Druid Theatre, presided over by Ireland’s First Lady, Sabina Higgins.
This is Finghin’s first year in full artistic control of Music for Galway. When he came on board as Artistic Director last year, some of the programme details were already in place but this year’s offering is totally his. He has put a firm stamp on matters, celebrating one of classical music’s most versatile instruments, the cello, via a series of concerts that will begin on September 30 and run until May.
