Music Diploma ‘as Gaeilge’ at NUI Galway

A UNIQUE new Irish language diploma course in traditional music being offered by NUIG and Cuan Studios in Spiddal will give participants the skills and confidence to make a living in a fast changing world, according to the director of the renowned Willie Clancy Summer School Muiris Ó Rócháin.
“Life has changed and traditional musicians need extra skills which this course will provide,” said Mr. Ó Rócháin at the launch of the course in Spiddal on Thursday last.
The one-year fulltime diploma will incorporate music theory and structure; the history and development of the traditional arts in Ireland; and the archiving, composition, arrangement, recording and performance of traditional music.
Participants will also produce and perform in an end of year concert under the guidance of a professional director.
The programme is aimed at musicians, dancers and singers who are interested in a career in music and the arts. It will be based in Cuan Studios and run through the medium of Irish; therefore fluency in the language is essential.
