Murray & Spelman Raise over €10,000 for Pieta House West
Murray & Spelman recognise that contribution and responsibility extends beyond commercial activities and for that reason they decided tocomplete the Diamond Hill challenge in Connemara, Co. Galway. This involved the combined efforts of staff members participating in the 170km cycle and 2 hour climb in aid of Pieta House West. Director, Joey Wynne said “It felt appropriate to complete the Diamond Hill challenge as our company is currently celebrating its Diamond anniversary with over 60 years of quality service since opening its doors in 1956”.
Pieta House is a Suicide and Self-Harm Crisis Centre, offering a confidential, free-of-charge counselling service.The Pieta organisation have witnessed first-hand the devastation caused by the loss of a family member and acknowledge the role of family insurance plans provided by firms like Murray & Spelman that help families deal with the difficult aftermath.
Financial Services Director, Joe McKeogh stated that “There is a common misconception that Life Insurance companies don’t pay out after suicide, when in most cases they do. Such Insurance plans have helped many bereaved families affected by suicide,enabling the bereaved family member to take time away from work and deal with their loss”.
Pieta House estimate that for every €1000 raised for their organisation a life is saved and with this in mind, Murray & Spelman set a target of raising €10,000 with all of the company’s employees fully committed to achieving this goal. The staff’s fundraising efforts successfully raised€8,257 and in addition to this, the company contributed a further €2000 in order to exceed the objective of reaching the €10,000 mark.
Mr Wynne concluded by saying. “We are delighted to present a cheque for €10,257 to Pieta House, our intention is to maintain a consistent level of corporate social responsibility going forward by introducing an annual charitable event in support of our community”.
