A Connemara mom is raising money for her 30-year-old daughter diagnosed with terminal cancer – so she can get well enough to marry her childhood sweetheart.

When Danielle Gomez had a bad car crash two months ago, she was grateful her two children, Leah, 12 and Pádraig, 2, escaped with minor injuries. Sadly, she suffered a miscarriage old weeks after discovering she was six weeks pregnant.

But things were to take a much bigger turn for the worst for the family from Rosaveal.

While meeting up with a friend shortly afterwards in Galway City, Danielle collapsed from a seizure.

She was taken by ambulance to University Hospital Galway where she underwent a battery of tests. An MRI showed that Danielle had a sizeable tumour on her brain, reveals Linda.

“She was getting headaches for over a year and pins and needles in her hands. The doctor put it down to stress. But now it seems the consultant in Dublin thinks the tumour may have been there for up to three years.”

She was transferred to Dublin’s Beaumont Hospital in October where she had the tumour surgically removed. Since then, she has been diagnosed with Stage 3 Anaplastic Glioma, an extremely rare and malignant high-grade terminal brain cancer.

“They think she has three to five years to live maximum. It’s such a fast-growing, aggressive cancer she has,” says Linda.
