Mummers Festival proves another massive success

RAHAN from Offaly and Lackagh Mummers were the big winners in the senior and junior events respectively at the Annual Mummers Festival held in New Inn last weekend.
For Rahan, it was another successful visit to East Galway as they retained the title they won last year. The Leisure Centre was packed on Saturday night for the senior event when the victorious Rahan Group produced a highly polished and entertaining show, and shaded the verdict over a strong Lackagh Group, with the Kilnadeema Mummers taking the third prize.
This year’s “Best Musician” award went to Ciara Stapleton of Kilnadeema, while the “Best Dancer” award went to Claire Greaney of the Lackagh Mummers. Sacara Furey of Lackagh took the award for “Best Flute Player” while the “Best Singer” award went to Sarah Corcoran of the Ballymacward Mummers.
Pat Ward from the Ballymacward Mummers was again the “Best Storyteller” at the festival, making it three in a row victories for him. James Hogan of Rahan took the Sean Dolan Perpetual Trophy as the “Most Outstanding Entertainer” at the Festival.
