Mum of eight in cry for help as they lose home

A desperate Galway mum and her eight children, who are on the brink of homelessness, has issued a heartfelt cry for help.

The 38-years-old woman, along with her four girls and four boys, aged seven to 21, have been asked to vacate her city home of five years . . . but have nowhere to go.

The landlord at her home on the east side of Galway, with whom she has a good relationship, has served notice to quit because the house is for sale. The family has until February 4 to leave.

The Traveller woman, whose husband died from cancer, is estranged from her subsequent long-term partner, who she says was abusive.

The family is at the top of the City Council’s social housing list but the  message this week from the local authority is that currently there is no home available.

“I’ve lost hope. I don’t know what to do. I’ve been crying a lot and when the older kids see me crying they start  crying,” the distraught mother says.
