Much better performance but Utd stay bottom

THE wait for a first win of the season continues, but on the evidence of last Friday night, that wait will not go on for too much longer as Galway United put a turbulent week behind them to finally play the kind of football, and put in the kind of performance, they are well capable of.
The outcome was the same as it was against Bohs, St Pats and Shamrock Rovers, but the display was from a different world — if United had played in their opening four games the way they had on Friday night, they would be comfortably mid-table now and Cousins would still be in a job.
United gave sweat and blood for the cause on Friday night, the latter being literally in the case of Marc McCulloch who had to come off in the 30th minute with blood pumping from a nasty looking facial injury.
They also did something which has seemed anathema to them all season — they played a decent brand of football, kept the ball on the ground, and worked to find openings rather than just lumping high balls up front as had been the norm.
