Moyode residents protest over quarry

RESIDENTS of the Moyode area near Craughwell have promised ‘Rossport Five’ type opposition — ‘only stronger’ — to a possible sale of woodland by Coillte for a quarry development in the area.
A major public meeting has been called for next Monday night (8.0) in St. Michael’s Hall, Craughwell, as a first show of strength by local resident to any new quarry development in the area.
Last October, Coillte — as part of their consultation process — informed some local residents of the possibility of selling off the 175 acre Moyode Woodland site.
Over the past year, testing and drilling operations have taken place on different parts of the woodlands site which has established a strong limestone vein of rock close to the surface, understood to be considered suitable for quarrying.
