MOYCULLEN SWIMMER IN HISTORIC BAY SWIM
Date Published: 20-Jun-2010
A Moycullen swimmer has made local maritime history by becoming the first person to swim across Galway Bay and back in the same day.
38 year old Andrew Flanagan, dived into the waters at Palmer’s Rock in Salthill at 11 o’clock yesterday morning, swam non-stop to Deer Island in County Clare and swam back to Salthill where he surfaced just before 5pm.
Andrew swam the 20 kilometres in aid of the Galway RNLI Lifeboat and also as part of his training for an English Channel bid next month.
