Moycullen men make history

A TRADEMARK defensive performance saw An Cearnog Nua, Moycullen clinch a first ever National Cup basket ball triumph with a dominant 25 point victory over a despondent Castleisland side on Saturday afternoon in Dublin.
Dominating from start to finish, a superb team performance had the magnificent Moycullen support on their feet throughout and the arena shook with the roar when inspirational captain, Nollaig Cunningham lifted the Cup.
It proved a fitting reward for a club that has been a long time seeking a second National title to add to their All Ireland Club victory of 2000. The bonfires were blazing for the team’s arrival in Moycullen on Saturday night and the party continued long into the following morning!
A great reflection on the club’s development policy is that 11 of the 12 players on duty have come through the Moycullen underage programme with odd man out, Mindaugus Kurcenkovas, likely to get an honorary Moycullen-man certificate for his magnificent efforts in the green cause over the last three seasons.
