Moycullen march on thanks to strong second half show
Moycullen 0-16
Killimor 1-9
Eanna O’Reilly at Kenny Park
A dominant second half performance from Moycullen saw them advance to the county intermediate final with a four-point win over Killimor at Kenny Park on Saturday evening.
Moycullen outscored their opponents by 0-10 to 1-2 in the second period, with Killimor’s goal coming from Liam Kelly in the final minute of injury time. Ultimately, it was a comprehensive victory for Moycullen, with the four-point final margin not reflecting the extent of their superiority.
Killimor’s second half performance was disappointing, given their positive display in the opening period, by the end of which they held the lead. However, they were thoroughly outplayed by the men in green in the second half and can have no complaints about the outcome on the day.
Moycullen began well, with Anraoi Whyte pointing a third minute free to open the scoring, after a foul on Colm Cunningham. Shortly after, Cian Folan had a goal chance for Moycullen, which was well saved by Sean O’Grady in the Killimor goal.
Jason Broderick opened Killimor’s account with a pointed free from the right wing, before Andrew Keary got an excellent point from the sideline on the stand side. Moycullen equalised with Whyte’s second free, before Fionn McDonagh put them ahead with a point, after a good pass from Evan Kenny.
Whyte’s third free extended their lead, before Broderick fired over a good point at the other end. The contest was very even at this stage, with Whyte getting his fourth, before Killimor centre back Jack O’Meara landed a terrific long-range point.
