Moving city airport is to be examined

The future development of Galway Airport is to be examined in a technical assessment of the facility — which will also explore the possibility of relocating the airport to an alternate site.

This week, Galway County Council approved an allocation of €15,000 under its Amenity and Economic Grant Scheme; which will go toward ‘high level’ technical assessment of the Carnmore airport.

Frank Dawson, Director of Community, Enterprise and Economic Development for the council, explained to the elected members at a council meeting this week that the city council will also be contributing funding to the report.

“I think it’s well-justified that Galway Airport should do this, ”Mr. Dawson said.
