Motorway gang targets Galway homes
GARDAÍ investigating a spate of burglaries in different parts of Galway over the past two weeks believe that a gang from Dublin have been involved in many of them – using the motorway network to make quick getaways.
Between November 7 and 15 last, there have been at least 20 break-ins reported in the Mid to North-Galway areas with cash and jewellery the main targets for the thieves.
Entry to the houses has normally been gained either by forcing open the backdoor or by smashing a rear window – most of the break-ins have occurred during daylight hours when the occupants were at work.
There have been several reports of a grey/silver Audi S4 being involved in a number of the robberies – possibly with a Dublin registration – although in all probability false number plates have been attached to the vehicle.
A black car – possibly a BMW – was also observed acting suspiciously in a number of areas over the past week or so. Gardaí say that they have mounted extra patrols in an effort to catch the gang who may be making the daily motorway trip from Dublin to carry out the robberies.
