Motorists advised to avoid Salthill carparks

Gusts of up to 130km/h are expected overnight in Galway, as well as up to 3cm in parts of Connacht.

The winds could lead to flooding in coastal areas such as Salthill, as high there is a high tide of 4.05 metres at 10.30pm and 3.9m at 10.55am.

Motorists are advised not to park their cars in Toft Carpark on the main carpark on Salthill Promenade, as there may be some overtopping of waves from the sea.

Met Éireann has issued a Status Orange wind warning for Galway, which is in force from 10pm tonight (Tuesday) until 8am tomorrow.

Westerly winds will veer northwest overnight and are expected to reach mean speeds of 50 to 65km/h, with gusts of 90 to 110km/h.

Meanwhile, a Status Yellow snow-ice warning is in place for Connacht overnight, with heavy snow showers expected to lead to accumulations of 3cm in parts of the province.
