The inquest into the death of Savita Halappanavar is to resume later this morning at Galway courthouse.

Key issues such as Ireland’s abortion law, religion, and systems failures at University Hospital Galway were all addressed yesterday.

The 31 year old died from septicaemia at UHG following a miscarriage last October.

Clinical Midwife Manager Ann Maria Burke confirmed that she had made reference to Ireland being a ‘Catholic country’ in discussions with Savita regarding termination.

Proceedings are due to get underway before Coroner Ciaran MacLoughlin at 10 this morning where further witnesses are to be called.
