MORE RESIDENTS OBJECT TO CITY SUPERMARKET PLANS

Several residents of a city housing estate have lodged objections to the City Council against plans for a retail centre in Westside.

Micheál Ó’ hUigínn has applied for planning permission to demolish an existing commercial building at Rahoon road.

He is hoping to build a supermarket, pharmacy and café in its place.

Several residents of Highfield Park in Newcastle have written to the City Council objecting to the plans for the supermarket development, which is expected to house Tesco.

Their concerns centre on the height and size of the proposed development and what they say is the over provision of retail services in the area.
