Monroe’s Live nominated for top music award

City venue Monroe’s Live on Dominick Street has again been shortlisted for an IMRO Connacht Live Music Venue of the Year Award 2015.

These awards celebrate the dedication of people who work in Ireland’s live-music venues, providing the public with exceptional live music experiences on a weekly basis. More than 11,000 IMRO members assessed hundreds of venues across the country for the shortlist.

Monroe’s Live previously won the IMRO Award for National Live Music Venue Award in 2012. The venue also scored a hat-trick last year by winning the Best of Galway Pub Award for three years in a row.

These achievements are more special as the venue only opened in December 2009 and will celebrate its sixth year anniversary this year. However, the Monroe family have been supporters of Galway’s live music scene for over 50 years.

The success of Monroe’s Live can be attributed to the dedication of owners Gary and Rob Monroe and their team. No other venue in the West of Ireland caters for such a diverse audience, as it hosts live music from every genre including rock, folk, trad, bluegrass, reggae and country. Monroe’s also showcases top international, national and local acts, including Kodaline and The Darkness. The venue’s four-day indoor festival, Rocktoberfest, gives emerging local and national acts a platform to showcase their music. Monroe’s Live also has one of the country’s best sound systems.

One overall award will be presented to the IMRO National Live Music Venue of the Year at a ceremony on February 16. The winner is decided on by the public. To vote for Monroe’s Live, fans can log on to https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/imrovenueawards and choose the venue by February 15.  Each voter will be entered into a competition to win a Samsung Galaxy Tab 3.

The Hot Press Live Music Venue of the Year Readers’ Poll will also be part of the awards and can be viewed at http://www.hotpress.com/readerspoll
