City officials have been left red faced following the disappearance and subsequent destruction of a public piece of sculpture believed to be worth €50,000.
This week, Galway City Council admitted that part of the stainless steel sculpture, which had been commissioned to commemorate the
opening of the Quincentenary Bridge, had been found.
However, they also admitted that the sculpture was ‘in bits’ and could never be repaired or reassembled.
One part of it was found in one of the Council’s own yards, where it had lain for probably the best part of 20 years. The search was instigated by a query from a city councillor.
