Date Published: 22-Oct-2012
The Chief Executive of the Road Safety Authority Noel Brett has singled out yesterday’s tragic collision in Tuam among the road incidents across the country which have claimed 6 lives in the past 25 hours.
Two year old Kate and three month old Grace were hit by a car as their father John Gilmore was pushing their buggy on the N17 hard shoulder on the Milltown side of Tuam.
The babies are the only two children of Michelle and John Gilmore of the Meadows, Milltown Road and their funeral will take place in Belclare on Wednesday.
A minute’s silence has been held at this afternoon’s meeting of Galway county council which has been underway since 2.
CllrTom McHugh who proposed the minute of silence said a dark cloud now hangs over the community while Cllr Peter Roche commended the emergency services for their swift action.
Cllr Mary Hoade said her thoughts are also with the family and as a parent she can’t imagine what it is like for them.
