Minor title glory for St. James’
Date Published: 30-Oct-2007
ST. JAMES’ justified their favourites tag and captured their second title on the trot with a deserved victory over a Monivea/Abbey side bidding for their first county minor final win since 1984 at Pearse Stadium on Sunday.
The reigning champions were the better team on the day but, as in earlier games, they failed to put their opponents away when they had them under the cosh and that ensured a nailbiting final few minutes where the North Board side only needed a point to draw level and force a replay.
In the end, the city side held out and their ability to kick crucial scores and their experience of winning tight games when not playing at their best was the difference in this exciting minor A decider.
