Up to 200 bikes could be made available at locations across Galway as part of the new public bikes scheme.

The Galway transportation unit is currently developing its plan which involves erecting bike stands at 20 areas including Salthill, Boston scientific and Merlin Park hospital.

Minister for public and commuter transport Alan Kelly is holding a symposium on the scheme at NUI Galway tomorrow morning. (10:30-1:30)

Its purpose is to analyse the feasibility of the project in Galway and will focus on issues such as bike locations and funding.

Senior Engineer with the Galway transportation Unit Jim Molloy says he is confident the scheme will proceed.
