MINISTER SAYS NO POWER OVER AVIVA JOBS DECISION
Date Published: 22-Sep-2011
A Government Minister says neither “God nor Man” will be able to stop Aviva from going down the road of job losses if that’s the decision the company makes globally.
Concern’s again been raised in the Dáil about the future of 500 jobs at the insurer, including 210 at its facilities in Knocknacarra and Eyre Square.
Aviva will only say that a review of operations in Ireland is ongoing and that no decisions have yet been made.
Responding to calls for the IDA and Government to do more, Junior Minister Seán Sherlock says the problem is a decision may not be influenced from here.
