MINISTER OPENS TUAM COMMUNITY PROJECT
Date Published: 17-Oct-2011
Minister for Housing and Planning, Willie Penrose officially launched Galway Social Inclusion Awareness Week in Tuam today.
The Awareness week runs until Sunday and 70 free events will take place throughout the county to highlight the work of agencies to combat social exclusion.
Minister Penrose was joined by Mayor of Galway, Michael ‘Mogie’ Maher, Mayor of Tuam, Mary Loftus and many other public representatives.
He also officially opened the new Parkmore Community House and Allotments.
The house was formerly derelict, but a local group managed to secured funding to turn the building into a community resource.
The house will now be used for meetings, events and training as well as a base for horticulture training and landscape planning.
The allotments will help people in the Tuam area save on their household bill by providing homegrown produce.
