Date Published: 24-Jul-2009

Minister for Health Mary Harney has promised to examine services for cerebal palsy sufferers in the West, and in particular respite services in Connemara.

Minister Harney made the promise during a private meeting with a young cerebal palsy sufferer from Seanaféistín, Casla and her parents in the Radisson Hotel in Galway this week

Two year old Mia Allen and her parents Barbara and Diarmuid met with the Health Minister before she attended a PD farewell function in Galway city

Barbera Allen described the meeting with the Minister as very “encouraging”.

Mrs Allen says there’s only one specially trained physio in the Connemara area to treat cerebal palsy sufferers and this situation cannot continue.

Jimmy Larkin of the Mia’s Hope Foundation is currently raising funds to send Mia to China for stem cell treatment.

He’s confident that despite the current economic climate, Minister Harney will be able to deliver on her promise.
