THE owners of a couple of unusual ponies have been reunited with their animals after fears that they were stolen to order.

The miniature ponies, known as the Farabella breed, went missing from a farm near Caherlistrane on Christmas Eve amid suspicious circumstances. However, the animals were discovered several days later in a bog around two miles from their home.

Gardai were alerted when the tiny horses — measuring just 28” and 30” in height — went missing. The owners of the horses, which are bred from Shetland ponies, were at evening Mass and returned to find the pets missing.

It is estimated that both miniature horses are worth between €3,000 and €4,000 and there were fears that they were stolen to order. The Gardai in Headford were alerted and the following day, Christmas Day, a widescale search of neighbouring lands took place.
