Milltown GAA club’s draw prizes might prove to be a lifesaver for all

One of Galway’s oldest GAA clubs is launching a fundraising initiative – with a quartet of prizes on offer that might just save your life.

Because top prize in the Milltown GAA club draw is a batch of 30 cardiac sports screenings for your sporting team, community group, work colleagues, family, or a group of friends.

The second prize is a defibrillator and secure cabinet for your club or community.

Third prize is a team fitness workshop led by Aspire Fitness, and fourth prize is a nutrition workshop with sports and exercise nutritionist Sinead Bradbury, who has worked with Galway GAA.

Not alone will the winners be healthier after all this; so too will the club itself – winners of senior county titles in 1971 and 1981 – because this fundraiser is designed to lay the foundations for a brighter future.

Over the years the club has grown, and we need support to further develop the club for both current and future generations of Milltown,” said a club spokesperson.

The club has been at the heart of the community over 130 years. The first recorded match played by Milltown was against their great rivals Dunmore McHales, played in Milltown on April 6 1888.

“Our history is long, and we want future generations to feel the fierce pride in the club and county we do.

“On top of that, the GAA now advises that the most effective way to identify cardiac risk is for players over 14 to undergo cardiac screening on one occasion? It is also advised that this process be repeated before age 25,” added the spokesperson.
