Mick Hanley for gig in Moycullen
Date Published: 04-Apr-2013
Singer/songwriter Mick Hanly makes a welcome return visit to The Forge in Moycullen this Saturday night.
Limerick-born Mick, who is one of the country’s best known songwriters, began his recording career with the late Mícheál Ó Domhnaill, making an album for the Polydor label, which is now classed as one of the groundbreaking folk albums of the time.
He followed that with a further two folk albums for the Mulligan label before turning his hand to writing and fronting the hugely popular band, Moving Hearts for a spell in the early eighties.
After a series of albums for the now defunct Round Tower label, Mick Hanly really explored his own writing style, and is a master at exploring human emotions and frailties, while retaining a lightness of touch. He had a major hit with his song ‘Past the Point of Rescue’ in the US in 1992, when it was released there by Hal Ketchum. Ketchum’s version reached number two in the Country Charts and picked up several awards for Mick Hanley.
In 2012 Mick started a project called ‘Coming to a Village Near You’, bringing his music and stories to villages countrywide. He is now coming with that project to Moycullen for what promises to be a memorable gig.
Mick Hanly plays The Forge this Saturday, April 6 at 8.30pm. Tickets costing €17 are available from The Forge on 091-868944.
